Material & Pieces

Specifically created for permanent jewelers. Use these jump rings to join ends of chains, or charm & connector add ons. We personally use 14K solid gold for longevity, but 14K gold filled is a great durable and affordable alternative. Both polish up to an illustrious yellow gold sheen.

Sizing:

14K Solid Gold

  • Inner diameter: 2 mm
  • Gauge: 24 gauge (thinner, dainty)
  • Pieces: 10 jump rings

14K Gold Filled

  • Inner diameter: 2 mm
  • Gauge: 22 gauge (standard)
  • Pieces: 100 jump rings

*Note* If you have a different size or gauge that you need, please reach out to us. We chose the most popular size (2mm inner diameter), but please request a size bigger or smaller based on your business needs. We always measure inner diameter on J rings.

Material:

14K solid gold, is solid gold throughout. 14K gold filled has a 14K gold outer layer that looks and works as solid gold, but is 5% or 1/20 solid gold of the total weight.

TIPS:

What have you found that makes your J ring your absolute favorite to use? Please let me know, so I can improve our J rings for your beautiful permanent jewelry collections!

When choosing a J ring size and material, I try to match it to the overall feel of the chain. I use chain that is 1.7mm in diameter, up to 4mm in diameter. For the 1.7mm chain, a 2mm inner diameter J ring is wider than the chain, but easier to thread. To close the J ring, I use two pliers, and bypass the ring back and forth (2X) GENTLY, and make the ends completely flush before welding. I personally use solid 14K gold, since I find it more durable, even though the gauge is thinner. Usually when a chain breaks, it’s on the actual chain, rather than where it is joined. Before welding, I check the link I’m about to thread with the J ring to make sure it hasn’t been bent or compressed when clipping the chain to size.

It’s a delicate balance to get a J ring big enough to fit two end of chains while still moving freely, and not too big that it looks clunky.
What’s your favorite size of J ring? Let me know!
